Barefoot Café sits just beyond a rugged 600-metre dirt lane in Murdock Valley, offering a quiet retreat from the bustle of Simon’s Town and Cape Point traffic. The journey here is part of the experience—something to note if you’re not in a 4x4—but once you arrive, the atmosphere instantly shifts to a relaxed, countryside pace.

This café leans into its farm-like setting with outdoor seating that overlooks False Bay, where the view spreads wide and calm. It’s a spot well suited to slow mornings or lazy afternoons, especially with the friendly company of resident dogs, goats near the parking area, and even chickens wandering the grounds. Families appreciate the small playground and swings, making it less of a quick coffee stop and more of a mini escape.

Coffee at Barefoot Café matches the laid-back vibe—craftsmanship counts here, with cappuccinos standing out as a fresh pick-me-up. Breakfast and lunch revolve around simple, honest dishes: the fresh omelette and avo on toast with a side of bacon are reliable choices, fueled by ingredients sourced locally and prepared with care. The flavor and freshness are often highlighted by visitors who are more used to city cafés.

The staff and owners bring a genuine warmth that complements the setting, making the place feel more like a friendly countryside meet-up than a commercial café. It’s a spot where locals and travelers alike pause for a bite and to soak in the bay views, grounding their visit in both food and landscape. If you’re driving along the coast or looking for a peaceful stop where the surroundings and slow pace matter as much as the food, Barefoot Café is worth fitting into your route.

Tranquil little cafe with stunning views of the bay. The food was delicious and used only fresh ingredients. The owners and staff were super friendly, as were the house dogs. Definitely worth the detour and a couple of minutes on the dirt access road to get there!

We had an amazing lunch at this beautiful spot! The farm is charming and authentic, offering a peaceful, rustic atmosphere. The food was absolutely delicious – fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with care. The staff were incredibly kind and welcoming, which made the experience even more special. If you’re visiting Simon’s Town or heading to Cape Point, this place is a must-stop. Highly recommended.

Breathtaking views, very friendly service and nice coffee. Chickens waddling around and friendly goats by the parking area. Very private and relaxing. There's a little playground and a swing for kids. Be warned: there's a 600 metre dirt laneway you drive on to enter which is fairly treacherous if you don't drive a 4x4. Well worth it though!

Best spot and food on my three weeks trip through South Africa. I wish I could get such a sandwich at home. The aromas of freshly cooked sauce welcomed us. You’re doing a fantastic job.

So glad that we spotted this place on Google maps as we were driving to Cape point. Don't be put off by the dirt track. What you'll find at the end is such a tranquil and stunning setting. We sat outside overlooking false bay with stunning views. I had a refreshing and delicious harvest juice with fruits and veggies from the farm. Food was tasty and reasonably priced. Served on some lovely hand thrown pottery. We particularly enjoyed being closely inspected by one of the chickens!

This is by far the highlight of my Cape Town trip for food. It’s a farm to table cafe, everything we ordered tasted amazing. It has the best views, we sat outdoors and enjoyed ourselves with chickens roaming around us. It was a beautiful lunch experience and highly recommended despite it being a bit remote. But if you’re around Boulders Beach, please do consider stopping by!

There’s a yummy secret nestled up in the Murdock Valley. We came here for a farm breakfast as we saw the menu for the old Coop restaurant which is no longer here, only to find out they’re vegan. Instead of departing we decided to try something on the menu. Banana milkshake from scratch and a cappuccino with carrot cake. Very happy we did, best banana milkshake I have ever had and the carrot cake was beyond fresh. Really high quality ingredients are used that I presume are grown right there or nearby Then there’s the atmosphere. The views and the landscape going up into the mountains are just peace ushering and the highlight of the place. Will definitely go back to try their other items and bask in the gorgeous atmosphere.

We just stopped by to grab a coffee, but were stunned how beautiful and cozy this farm is. You can feel the peace and the food tastes fresh and delicious. Don't be surprised if the road looks a little offroad, there are signs that point to the Barefoot Café.
